Empire State – Spalding County – Week of January 6, 1859
Died at his residence in this place on the morning of the 25th ult., of a 
disease of the heart, Samuel Dinkins, in the 53rd year of his age.  Mr. Dinkins 
was a native of Richland District, S. C. and has been a citizen of this county 
about 20 years.  He has been one of our most successful planters.   A short 
time previous to his death, he joined the Methodist Church, professing a lively 
hope of his future happiness beyond the grave.
