Empire State – Spalding County – Week of April 1, 1857
Mary M. Horton

Died in this place on the 20t, Mrs. Mary M. Horton, aged 70 years.  She 
embraced religion when but 10 years of age, and united with the Methodist 
Episcopal Church, of which she continued an exemplary member until called hence 
to the Church triumphant above.  Her conversion was clear satisfactory and 
undoubted, through an experience of 60 years, during which she realized its 
evidences and its fruits in a heart felt enjoyment of Divine grace.  She lived 
pious, useful, beloved and died “the death of the righteous” in the full 
assurance of hope.
