They probably subscribed to a GA newspaper(s), but these may just be articles sent them by people 'back home'. She was from Calhoun (Gordon Co.) and he from Sunnyside. The name of the newspaper, and alas date of obit / marriage announcement is not given in most cases.** MR. ELMER GRIFFIN IS LAID TO REST Impressive funeral services for Mr. Elmer H. Griffin, one of this city's most prominent and beloved citizens, were conducted from the First Methodist church this afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. Rev. M. M. Maxwell, pastor, officiated. He was assisted by Dr. W. M. Twiggs, presiding elder of the Griffin Methodist District, and Rev. L. W. Blackwelder, rector of St. George's Episcopal church. Interment was in Oak Hill cemetery with Frank S. Pittman, funeral director, in charge. Pallbearers were W. H. Beck, Sr., T. T. Blakely, D. J. Arnold, John H. Morrow, John H. Ward, Sr., Dr. A. H. Frye, Dr. F. H. Wilson, and A. K. Maddox. Members of the board of stewards of the First Methodist church and members of the Rotary Club attended the services in a body. Mr. Griffin, vice president of the Commercial and Savings Bank, died suddenly Tuesday morning at the bank of a heart attack. He was born in Sunny Side on February 22, 1886, and was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Griffin. He moved with his family to Griffin and was educated here. Upon graduation from Griffin High he went to work with the Savings Bank of Griffin, now the Commercial and Savings Bank. With the exception of one year, when he was employed by an insurance company in Athens, he had lived in Griffin and had been connected with the bank. Mr. Griffin was a past president of the Griffin Rotary Club. He was a member of the board of stewards of the First Methodist church and for several years, until declining health forced him to give up the position, was chairman of the board. For many years he also was a trustee of the church. He was for more than 25 years grand keeper of the wampum of the Red Men of Georgia. Mr. Griffin is survived by his widow, who before her marriage was Miss Lily Rivers; a son, J. Elmer Griffin, of Augusta; two daughters, Miss Mary Griffin and Mrs. John Ward,Jr., of Griffin and a sister, Mrs. Paul Walker of Griffin.
