Zebulon, Pike County, Georgia, August 21, 1908 Judge E.W. Hammon[d] Dead Judge E.W. Hammond died at his home in Griffin Monday night in the sixty second year of his age of paralysis. He had been partially blind for the last year. Judge Hammond was, with one exception, the oldest lawyer of the [this] place, Judge Walter C. Beeks, his life-long friend, lapped him just a short while [ago]. He had held several positions of trust, being ordinary of Spalding county for sixteen consecutive years; was recorder for the city for eight years, and had been on the bench of the city court of Griffin for eleven years. Besides being a good lawyer and an excellent citizen, he has been in the Baptist ministry for the last twelve years, going from place to place filling his regular appointments with much zeal. Judge Hammond left Culloden in early life and began to practice law in Atlanta, going from there to LaGrange, from which city he came to Griffin in 1866. In 1869 he was married to Miss Sallie Andrews at the First Baptist church in Griffin, from which church his funeral was held Wednesday morning at 10 o’clock. Besides his wife, Judge Hammond is survived by three daughters, Miss Ione Hammond, Mrs. J.E. Drake and Mrs. E.W. Beck, all of Griffin, and one sister, Mrs. M.O. Bowdoin, and one brother, George W. Hammond, of the post office department in Atlanta.
