Griffin, Georgia, Tuesday Morning, July 31, 1888 Judson Mathews Dead Our whole community was saddened over the death of Judson Mathews, which occurred shortly after noon Sunday. For seven long weeks he has been a patient sufferer from the results of the accident, that at last, in spite of the best medical skill, cut him off in the very prime of noble young manhood. A host of loving friends did all in their power to cheer, and make peaceful, his last days on earth. Judson was a young man of exceptional worth of character - an earnest Christian - firm in the pursuit of the good and right as he understood them. Who shall estimate the loss of such a young man from our midst! Long may the memory of the upright walk be cherished by our boys, as an example worthy of their imitation. The remains were enterred [sp] in the family burying ground, yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock. To his family, we extend our most sincere sympathy in this great bereavement.
