Owen of Griffin died unexpectedly Wednesday night as he was riding in a taxicab from the house office building to his hotel in Washington, D. C. Death was attributed to heart disease. Mr. Owen was serving his fourth consecutive term as representative from the Fourth District. He was a member of the house agriculture committee and was actively interested in cotton legislation. Before going to congress he served as solicitor general of the Griffin Circuit. Congressman Owen had only recently returned to his duties ater being confined for several weeks when he was critically ill of pneumonia. Mr. Owen was a widower. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Hendley Floyd of Rome, Ga.; a son, E. M. Owen Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla.; and a brother, Dr. J. C. Owen of Griffin.
