T. Johnson, who was stricken on Train Tuesday, Dies without regaining consciousness. Griffin was grieved to hear of the passing of John Hightower Johnson, which occurred at the family residence on South Hill street Friday morning at seven o'clock. Young Mr. Johnson was employed in the office of Arthur Tuft, chief architect at Camp Gordon, near Atlanta, assisting his father, H. T. Johnson in construction work. Last Monday he complained of a severe headache and at the advice of his father started home Tuesday, at noon on the train arriving here at 1:15 PM. After passing Griffin, Conductor Ruff noticed that the young man was still on the train apparently asleep and knowing he was from Griffin attempted to awake him when it was discovered he was in an unconscious condition. The young man's homefolks were notified over the phone and Dr. Caron, Harry Johnson, Jr., and Miss Mary Beeks Johnson went down and brought the patient to Griffin Tuesday afternoon. The best medical attention was given him, but he never regained consciousness. The cause of his death is attributed to double pneumonia and cerebral meningitis. John Hightower was sixteen years of age and an unusually bright and promising boy with scores of friends won by his affable disposition and pleasing personality. The deepest sympathy of the entire community goes out to the grief stricken relatives and friends. The deceased is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. T. Johnson, three brothers, H. T. Johnson, Jr., George Johnson, and Holcombe Johnson, and one sister, Mary Beeks Johnson. The funeral services were held at the home on South Hill street Friday afternoon, conducted by Rev. J. E. Sammons, after which the remains were laid to rest in Oak Hill cemetery. This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/gafiles/ File size: 2.3 Kb
