Clifford F. Thornton died suddenly of pneumonia in Douglas, Ariz., Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock. The young man's father, J.J. Thornton, received a message Sunday morning saying his son was in a low state of health and to come to his bedside. Mr. Thornton was preparing to leave in the afternoon when a second telegram announced the death of the young man. Clifford Thornton was a popular young business man of sterling character and worth, and news of his untimely demise caused universal sorrow among his scores of friends here, where he was held in highest esteem by all who knew him. Nearly two years ago young Mr. Thornton located in Arizona and at the time of his death was connected with the street railway and electric light company, holding a prominent position. Mrs. Thornton and his young son joined him some time ago and were with him when the end came. The deceased was a son of J. J. Thornton, a prominent business man of this city. He was thirty-one years of age and is survived by his wife and child, his parents and five sisters, all of whom have the sympathy of the entire community to their sad bereavement. Mr. Thornton's remains were shipped from Douglas, Ariz., Monday and are expected to reach Griffin Wednesday or Thursday. The hour and day of the funeral will be announced later.
