P. Sawtell Dies After A Long Illness Beloved Griffin Woman Goes to Her Reward in Heaven for Many Noble Deeds Done on Earth. Griffin was deeply grieved at the passing of Mrs. J. P. Sawtell, one of the city's most prominent and estimable ladies, which occurred at the home of her son, Mr. S. B. Sawtell, on South Sixth street at 11:15 o'clock Thursday morning. The deceased had been in declining health for some ten years and recently sustained serious inquiries by a fall in the family home from which she never recovered. Mrs. Sawtell came of one of the most honored and distinguished families in Middle Georgia and was greatly beloved by all who knew her for her many beautiful traits and graces of heart and mind and soul. She was a consistent member of the Presbyterian church for sixty years and goes to receive her reward in heaven for many acts of kindness and deeds of goodness done on earth. Mrs. Sawtell was formerly Miss Mary Ettienne Burr, a daughter of the late A. P. Burr, who years ago was publisher of the Independent South of Griffin, and was noted throughout the South as a brilliant editorial writer. She was born in Griffin, January 4, 1847. On May 3, 1866, she was united in marriage to Mr. J. P. Sawtell, who was also a prominent newspaper man. They located in Cuthbert, where for twenty years Mr. Sawtell was editor of a weekly newspaper. She came to Griffin about thirty years ago with her husband, who, with his sons, S. B. and J. C. Sawtell, published the Griffin Daily Call, which for many years was one of the leading newspapers of this city and state. Mr. Sawtell died a number of years ago, since which time Mrs. Sawtell has made her home with her son, Mr. S. B. Sawtell. Mr. J. C. Sawtell having died in the meantime. She is survived by one son, Mr. S. B. Sawtell and one daughter, Mrs. H. W. Goddard, of Barnesville. Funeral services for Mrs. Sawtell will be held at her late home tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. W. A. Murray, of the First Presbyterian church, and Rev. W. P.
