Dickinson, passed peacefully away. The news of his death reached us by wire about noon, and the message brought sadness to our every heart. Our brother was once a resident of this county, but for more than two years and at the time of his death, was residing at Griffin, Ga. He had invested in a home here, with the hope of returning in the future, where he could be with us, and near the resting place of his father, mother, and two of his children that peacefully sleep in the Chapel Hill Cemetery. The life of our dear brother was a beautiful type of Christianity, and one of nearness to his Master, ever climbing to greater heights, a guiding star for us to follow, as the wise men did the star of Bethlehem. The guide he followed never leads into an impenetrable abyss, but leads cautiously; and those who are guided aright will avoid the possibility of coming into contact with some perilous shoal, and perish among the barriers of an ice-bound crag. In his last letter to us he manifested implicit trust in the Saviour's will; this he wrote on the first of February, lying in bed, where he had been confined under affliction the greater part of five long months. He was united in marraige to Miss Lula Bolton, the daughter of Rev. John Marion Bolton of Griffin, fifteen years ago, on the 21st day of February. Her father died when she was a small girl; she was the baby child and is now left to assume the same responsibility of her widowed mother. She was a dutiful devoted wife and to this companion in life Brother John was ever the gallant man that won her in her youth. By precept and example he guided his children along the path of righteousness; he erected a family altar in early married life, which he cherished to the last. The chain was broken, the year he was married and our dear father was taken. Then, only two years ago, the 23rd of February, our dear mother passed away. Once the chain is broken link by link, soon gives, until there is not one left. Truly the chastening rod is constantly reminding us to be ye also ready. Let us for Jesus work faithfully here, Till from our toil, He shall bid us go; Then we shall join our dear brother, Who will be waiting for us where, Heaven's bright gateways glow. Also keep in memory the request the request he made at the close of his last letter us. Thus: "Do unto others as you would they should do unto you? Be a true Christian? God bless you all. Tired down. Lovingly, John." Although tired while here, he is resting now where there is no suffering, naught but peaceful sleep. He leaves a wife, five children and four brothers to mourn his death. Let us look forward to the time when there will be a great reunion on the golden shore. His beloved sister-in-law, MRS. MORGAN DICKINSON File size: 3.4 Kb
