Stewart died at his home in Griffin, at 7:45 o’clock last Sunday night. It was well known that he had been sick for a long while, and his death was not unexpected. Judge Stewart was one of Georgia’s truest and best men, who coming from the humble walks of life, not only won brilliant success, but the genuine respect and esteem of all classes of men. His friends were numberless in Henry County, where he was loved with true devotion, and his death is sincerely mourned. During the funeral services of Judge Stewart, it is said that every class of business in Griffin, even to the huckster stands, were closed, and those who daily toiled for a subsistence were as sincere in their grief and tribute of tears to his memory as the riches in the land. All honored and respected him. He was 61 years of age. For the benefit of his many friends in this section, the next issue of THE WEEKLY will contain a sketch of his life.
