H. Swann, a former citizen of Marshall, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. F. Whatley, in Griffin, Georgia Sunday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock according to a telegram received here Sunday afternoon by relatives and friends. William Henry Swann was born in Monroe County, Georgia, May 8, 1847, where he grew to manhood, and when the civil war broke out, he joined the Confederate army and fought through the conflict. He moved to Marshall about thirty years ago and for a number of years was employed in the Marshall Car Wheel & Foundry Company and in the Texas & Pacific Shops. He moved from Marshall to Longview a few years ago and was on a visit to his daughter in Georgia when he died. The deceased is a member of Marshall Lodge No. 22 A. F. & A. M. and the W. P. Lane Camp No. 621, Confederate Veterans. Mr. Swann is survived by his wife, and two daughters, Mrs. J. F. Whatley, of Griffin, Georgia, and Mrs. I. M. Palmer, of Longview and one son, L. J. Swann, of California, and a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Farmer Swann and family of Marshall, and nine grand children. The body will be brought to Marshall for burial, leaving Griffin Monday evening, and is expected to arrive here early Wednesday morning and will be buried here is the family plot at Greenwood cemetery.
