Dr. Thurmond was a native of Monroe County but moved to Griffin 17 years ago. He was a county school superintendent in Monroe County for eight years. Dr. Thurmond attended Southern Dental College in Atlanta which is now Emory University. He had practiced denistry in Griffin for 17 years. He was a member of a Baptist church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Eva Posey Thurmond; two daughters, Mrs. J. DeWitt Irwin of Macon and Mrs. J. R. Moon of East Point, Ga.; two sisters, Mrs. Maud Hall of Barnesville and Mrs. Ivan Johnson of Forsyth, Ga.; a brother, George Thurmond of Milledgeville, Ga., and five grandchildren.
