Griffin, Georgia, Saturday Morning, December 22, 1888 Death of S.H. Wilson One of Spalding's Most Prominent Citizen's This community was surprised and shocked yesterday morning to learn of the death of S.H. Wilson, which occurred about nine o'clock. Pneumonia was the cause, the attack having come on several days ago and turning at about twelve o'clock Thursday night into congestion of the lungs. Mr. Wilson had a long and severe attack of pneumonia some time ago, from which he recovered with difficulty. Mr. Wilson was between 53 and 55 years old at the time of death. He moved here from Albany some fifteen years ago and has since lived on his large and comfortable farm near the northeastern edge of the city. By industry and good management, as well as good fortune, he had amassed a fortune of probably sixty thousand dollars, owning stocks and bonds as well as large tracts of land in southeast Georgia. He took out five thousand dollars life insurance last August on the train between Griffin and Albany, and may have had other insurance. He leaves a wife and four children, as well as large numbers of kinsmen and friends to mourn his loss. A sister with a large family was expected here last night to make her home in Griffin and educate her children by his kindness. Mr. Wilson was a plain and unostentatious man, whose main endeavor was to do right. He was a faithful member of the Baptist Church, and a devout Christian. He was charitable in a high degree, and the greatest praise that can be said over his grave will simply be that the poor will miss him.
