All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/ga/gafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Francesca Henle-Taylor henle@fmfproductions.com November 19, 2010, 9:07 am IN SENATE, 19th December 1823 Whereas it appears that the act entitled and act, passed on the 9th of December 1824 to alter and amend an act to impose an additional tax on Pedlers and Itinerant Traders, passes the 9th of December, 1819, has generally been evaded by Pedlers and Itinerant Traders, and no tax has been paid of the State by a large portion of those persons , from the want of information on the part of the Comptroller General:-- Be it resolved, That it shall be the duty of the Comptroller General, to publish, quarterly, in one of the public gazettes of Milledgeville, Augusta, Savannah, Darien & Athens the names of all Pedlers and Itinerant Traders, who have taken out a license from him for that purpose. And be it further resolved, That it shall be the duty of all civil officers in the different counties in this State, to demand of all Pedlers and Itinerant Traders, whether, they have obtained a license from the Comptroller, in conformity to the provisions of the above recited act and if such Pedlers and Itinerant Trader shall refuse to produce such license upon such demand, such Pedlers and Itinerant Trader shall be arrested by such officer, and immediately taken before a Justice of the Inferior Court or Justice of the Peace, to be dealt with as the law directs for a violation of the aforesaid. And it shall be the duty of the clerk of the Inferior Court in the different counties in this State to notify the Comptroller General in writing the names of all Pedlers or Itinerant Traders passing through their respective counties.
