Infantry) ************************************************ Copyright. H. 11th Regt. Infantry) I was researching the genealogy of someone that was listed as being in "Capt. Arnold's Company, Georgia Calvary". I found almost nothing by a Google search except a list of names at http://www.researchonline.net/ but I figured that list was derived from the list at http://files.usgwarchives.net/ga/military/civilwar/gsi/gsi001.txt I tried to figure out a little more about Arnold's Company. In the interest of providing information to others, I'm passing this on to the original cataloger of the GSI list and the current file manager of the Georgia USGenWeb project. I believe “Capt. Arnold” refers to Eugenius C Arnold, who was promoted to Captain on 17 Jul 1863. I suspect these men served in his company after that, presumably at the end of their participation in the war. Possibly they listed this unit as their affiliation when in the Conf. Vets or when applying for a pension. I was researching a John W Thompson (14 Apr 1813-16 Oct 1877) who lived in Walton Co, GA in 1860. He is listed with this record "Enlisted in Company H, Georgia 11th Infantry Regiment on 06 Mar 1862.Mustered out on 02 Jul 1864. Enlisted in on 15 Nov 1864.Mustered out on 15 Apr 1865 at Macon, GA. " from "Roster of Confederate Soldiers of Georgia 1861-1865 " per Ancestry.com (Aug 2018). Separately, he is listed as being in Capt. Arnold's Company. Wikipedia indicates Company H was formed from Walton Infantry by Captain George T Anderson, which was created in the spring of 1861 and apparently became part of 11th Georgia Volunteers that spring, or at least by July 1861 when they went to Virginia. The muster rolls of Company H has similar names in “History of the 11th Georgia Vols” (Kitteral J Warren,1863) at https://archive.org/stream/09186329.3421.emory.edu/09186329_3421 specifically, Eugenius Arnold (Bvt 2nd Lt, promoted 1st Lt), A H Blasingame, Henry J Cooper, Cornelius.M. and O.J. Gibbs (different initials), John W Griffin (diff. initials), Thompson Reeves, Joel Smith (possible match for J H Smith), John W Thompson. A May 1861 roster and a similar roster of Walton Infantry can be found at ancestry.com (There are a couple more rosters in adjacent pages.) Both include Eugenius C Arnold as 3rd Lieut. (Neither includes John W Thompson). In addition to the overlap in Warren’s 1863 list above, these rosters include William A Cannon, John J Cox, John W Sims, (and John L Smith, possible match for J H Smith) I believe it likely this Georgia Calvary company was derived from that Company H of the Georgia 11th Infantry.
