Samuel Clinton Hood, formerly of Georgia, but now of Missouri, has been elected as president of Monroe College for Women. The institution at Forsyth is under the control of the Georgia baptist Convention, is better know under its old name--Monroe Female College. The mercantile business of John L. Harper of Americus has been placed in the hands of a temporary receiver. Judge Z. A. Littlejohn, upon petition of various creditors laced Sheriff McArthur in charge as temporary receiver. The petition for permanent receiver will be heard June 12th. The Washington Water Works Company met Friday and formed a permanent organization with the following board of directors: J. R. Dyson president: W. T. Johnson, vice-president: H. D. Atwood, secretary and treasurer; James Hines; R. O. Barksdale, T. M. Green, H. H. Wooten, Thomas C. Hogue, and E. L. Holland. Clarence Hunnicutt, the 9-year-old son of Capt. J. C. Hunnicutt, who is general supervisor of the Southern Railroad,. leftr the parlor at Austell Tuesday night where the family were seated and obtained access to his father's room. With childish curiosity he ransacked the chamber thoroughly until he came across his fathers revolver. The first his parents knew of his whereabouts was a startling report, and when they rushed into the room it was to find the boy dead on the floor, the blood flowing from a wound in the breast. The ball had passed through the heart, and death had evidently been instanstanous.
