J. Bivins of Cordele has issued an official call for an election to be held on Dec 1, allowing the people to either vote for or against the issuance of $7,000.00 worth of thirty-year bonds, the money to be used for public improvement in the city. The twenty-fifth session of the North American African Methodist Episcopal conference assembled at Thomaston, Wednesday morning. Bishop H. M. Turner, D.D.,LL.D. of Atlanta presiding. Rev. J.S. Flipper, also of Atlanta, conducted the devotions. A portrait of Maj. Gen. Hugh McCall painted by Mrs. Gregory, has been placed in the House or Representatives at the capitol. This illustrious man was Georgia's first historian and while he was an Alabamian this state has many times honored him. There will be any amount of bidding for the fob of putting up the new water works for Augusta. Contractors who have a desire to secure the work are now beginning to arrive in the city. Over a hundred requests for specifications have been asked for by mail and the requests for them have been complied with. The football team of the Technological school has disbanded. An agreement was made by the colleges of Georgia, Tennessee and Alabama that they would break up their teams and cancel all the dates they have for this season. The cause is the accident in the Georgia-Virginia game last Saturday, resulting in the death of Mr. GAmmon. The very newest Georgia colonel is Holst Calloway, the son of Maj. and Mrs. Frank Calloway, who formed acquaintance with this world two days ago. Col. Holst Calloway, two days' existence, was Wednesday honored by appointment as full fledged member of the governor's staff of Georgia and he now takes his place among the distinguished colonels and majors on that staff. Gov. Atkinson issued an order to this effect and caused it to be spread upon the records at the capitol Wednesday. Mining interest in Hall county are on the boom just now. Now mines are being started, and the old ones are picking up in their work. The McClusky mines, not far from Gainesville, are the most prosperous, seemingly. Work is being carried on day and night. A force of twenty hands is employed regularly, a ten-stamp mill is at work and the gold being turned out in paying quantities.
