                          NEWS FROM AROUND THE STATE

                             STOLE WIFE IN GEORGIA
     Dr. Joseph Williams, alias Dr. K. Durham, alias Dr. Coburn, is the man
arrested at Wilson last week upon suspicion that he was with Nellie Cropsey. It
is charged that, "Dr." Williams last August took a horse and buggy from J. A.
Butts of Wadley, Ga., brought the turnout to Edgecombe county this sate [S.C.]
and sold it. Butts has recovered his property. "Dr.", Williams it is claimed
took two other horses in Georgia and also stole his wife. He stopped one night
at her father's home, she became infatuated with him, he told her brothers he
had $11,000.00. Marriage was quickly arranged, Williams left his trunk at he
house,saying the money was in it. After he had gone with his pretty bride, the
trunk was opened and was found to contain stones and rubbish.
