This manganese if flat like limestone rock. Every piece seems to be broken from a large body of ore. The country people are very much excited. Lands that brought $9.00 per acre were sold on Saturday for $40.00 per acre. Thomas F. Thornton, a young man of good family, residing seven miles above Elberton, was arrested Wednesday on a charge of seduction. A. J. Bond, also a man that stands well, was the prosecutor, and it is his daughter that is alleged to have been seduced. Th defendant was taken before the county court, and,having waived examination, gave bond in the sum of $600.00 for his appearance at the next superior court. Americus Recorder: The Americus Grocery Company will shortly commence business. The following officers of the company have been elected: Presidnet; G. W. Clover:vice president, P. C. Clegg: secretary and treasurer, C. R. Whitely: manager, Frank Lanier, Jr. The consolidation of the firms of Glover & Lanier and the P. C. Clegg & Co. will take place on May 15th. The company has decided to erect a handsome three-story brick store room at a cost of $20,000.00. It will be located on the lot at the corner of Lamar and Jackson streets. The annual meeting of the stockholders of Sibley Manufacturing Company was held at Augusta Wednesday. President W. C. Sibley's report was read and received, and a vote of thanks tendered him for the admirable showing maade. The following gentlemen were elected a board of directors for the ensuing year: Samuel Reyser, New York: Dr. A. H. Baker, Augusta: Walter Smith, Cincinnati: Joseph H. Day, Augusta: Charles H. Howard, John Harvard Davison, Augusta. At the meeting of the directors J. W. Charles was unanimously re-elected treasurer of the company. The first annual meeting of the Woman's Press Club of Georgia was held at Columbus Wednesday. The meeting was called to order by the president, Mrs. E. T. Byington. There were about twenty five members present, including Mrs. Byington; Miss Minnie Quinn; Miss Lay McAfee, Miss Rosa Woodbury; of Atlanta, and Mrs. Penne of Monticello. Miss Quinn the secretary, read the minutes of the Atlanta meeting. Mrs. Byington extended the club a hearty welcome to Columbus and to her home, after which she read an entertaining paper on "Woman's Club." Miss Quinn then read a paper on "Woman in Journalism."
