Ross of Americus has filed suit in Lee Superior Court against the Central railroad for damages to the amount of $10,000.00. About a month ago Mr. Ross boarded the Central train at Smithville for Americus. Just as he stepped upon the platform the train gave a jerk throwing Mr. Ross between cars, which passed over his foot and crushed it so badly that amputation was necessary. William McCants, a colored employed at the saw mill near Cordele, was brought to Americus Saturday night with a thirty-eight caliber pistol ball in his cranium. Oliver Smith and a colored companion were playing with the pistol. They had carefully examined it in order to assure themselves that it was not loaded, and when McCant's walked up to where they were Smith snapped it in his face. The pistol fired and a bullet plowed its way through McCant's nose. One day last fall, while picking cotton, Ellen powell, a colored woman, lost a bag from her person containing $5.00 in silver. She was working for N. Hughes, who superintendents the plantation of N. B. Baum, near Toomsboro. One day last week, after a thunder cloud had passed, she was at work in the same field knocking down cotton stalks. Seeing a beautiful rainbow across the field, and thinking at the same time of the lost money Mr. Hughes told Ellen to to go to the end of it and she would find her money. She took him at this word, and just in front of her, about 00 yards or more, where the end of the rainbow appeared to be, she looked on the ground and found her lost money.
