Only a few hundred dollars of city taxes remain unpaid at Newnan, the total amount collected thus far being over $6,000.00. A day or two ago while Lucius Stanley of Siloam, was breaking a spirited young colt, the colt became frightened and ran away, turning the cart over and throwing Mr. Stanley from the cart, breaking his ankle and brusing himself considerably. Hon. Milton P. Reese of Washington, it is said by his friends, will make a race for the state Senate. It is Wilkes county's time to name the senator, and the indications are the county will name Mr. Reese if he will accept it. Mr. Reese is an able lawyer, enjoying a lucrative practice, and he may not desire to re-enter politics. Information has been received in Macon of the death of Rev. John M. Field at the residence of his son on Indian River, Florida. He formerly lived in Macon, and went with the Macon Volunteers to the Indian War of 1836. He died in the 83rd year of his age. Dr. Thomas H. Blount of Macon is the only survivor of the volunteers who went to the Indian war. Waynesboro True Citizen: While S. Schwarzweiss is a Hebrew of the Hebrews, of the stock of Israel, of the house of Hudah, never the less he is a sort of honorary member of the Methodist church. At any rate such is his interest in it that a few days ago he employed a painter and had its coors repained, adding very much to the appearance to that handsome structure. T. J. Anderson, a prominent citizen of Perry, was stricken with paralysis Thursday afternoon and died at 9 o'clock that night. Mr. Anderson was on the streets a few moments before he was stricken, laughing and talking with his friends. He leaves a wife with one child, a boy about 10 years of age. Mr. Anderson is a brother-in-law of J. H. Hodges, editor of the Houston Home Journal. The erection of a 10-story office building of granite will be begun in Atlanta before many months hav passed. The Venable brothers will be the builders, and it will probably be the handsomest office building in the country. It will be put up on some large corner lot almost in the center of the city and will cost between $500,000.00 and $750,000.00.
