Mr. R.H. Knox is Mayor pro tem. Columbus is making all needed preparations to erect a new and improved cotton mill. A site of seven acres has been selected on North Highlands, and as soon as the charter is secured work on the building will begin. The mill will be owned and operated by the Columbus Manufacturing Company. A meeting of fanciers and farmers interested in poultry raising is called to meet in Perry on Tuesday, July 18, It is desired to organize the Houston County Poultry Association for the purpose of promoting interest in poultry raising and the disemination of useful knowledge on poultry culture. Worth Local: The many friends of Dr. G. B. Watson of Acree, who was recently adjudged insane and sent to the sanitarium at Milledgeville, will regret to learn that little hopes of his recovery are entertained, but that death is expected at almost any time, The pupils of the Georgia School for the Deaf, which is located at Cave Springs, get out a little paper called the School Helper. A printing department was established in this school one year ago, and a number of boys are being taught there and will go out as practical printers, who can readily earn a living at the trade. Prof. E. E. Parker, a young white man, who has been teaching a school in Miller county, was arrested Sunday and tried and convicted Monday for appropriating a railroad ticket at Safford when the agent's back was turned. He will serve ten months in the gang if he fails to produce $40.00. It is said that the young man is of good family, and resides somewhere in Alabama. Blakely Reporter: Old man James Hayes who lives a few miles in the country, was in town Tuesday in rather a bad plight, having been chewed constantly by a dog with rabies. The dog's head had to be severed from his body before it could be made to turn the old man loose. A splendid mule and several other animals were also bitten by the dog, and the whole neighborhood is now armed and looking for mad dogs.
