In the passing of Mr. George A. Anderson, which occurred at his home one and a half miles from Turnerville, Ga., on April 9th, Habersham county loses one of her noblest sons. He was ever identified with the upbuilding of his community, and was always to be found on the right side of every question. His entire life of 69 years was spent on the old Anderson place, except two years, 1902 and 1903, when he lived in Toccoa, Ga., having made the change to be able to give better school advantages to his children. While living in Toccoa the death angel entered the little family circle and took away the promising young son, Paul. In the fall of the same year (1903) the other son, Henry P., died in Mexico, where he was finishing a third enlistment in the United States Hospital Corps. He had served his country bravely through the Spanish-American War previous to enlistment in the U.S. Hospital Corps. After these severe losses the bereaved father and mother turned with longing hearts to the old home, among "The hills of Habersham," and they returned. Here the remaining years of peace and usefulness were quietly passed. Mr. Anderson was honored and loved by a large circle of friends. He was a member of the Methodist Church from early manhood and was consistent and loyal to her service. Many beautiful testimonies have come to the bereaved wife telling of the influence of her Godly husband. One from a prominent Methodist preacher, who in early life was an inmate of this home, was much appreciated. He said the prayers of this pious man heard round the humble family altar had followed and blessed him through the passing years. There remains to mourn his loss his wife, Mrs. Nettie Biggers Anderson, one daughter, Mrs. George W. Coker, of Columbus, Ga., a brother, Mr. J. R. Anderson, of Toccoa, Ga., and a large number of relatives, among whom are Mr. and Mrs. Bob Porter, Mr. and Mrs. Harry J. Hitt, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Hanie and Mrs. Mae A. Porter, all of Toccoa, Ga., and Mr. W. N. Anderson, of Syracuse, N.Y. The funeral services were held at Ebenezer Church, conducted by his pastor, Rev. Linn, assisted by "Uncle" Robert McClure, and the interment was in the church graveyard. A Friend. Toccoa, Ga., April 23, 1920.
