William Herschel Ayers, 21, of 169 Foster Street, Toccoa, GA was killed in action in Vietnam on Thursday, June 5. He was a son of H. C. "Cliff" and Dora Lee Wells Ayers of Toccoa, and was born February 29, 1948 in Royston, GA, but had lived most of his life in Toccoa and Stephens County. He was a graduate of Stephens County High School, class of 1966, and was a graduate of North Georgia Technical & Vocational School in Clarkesville, GA. He entered the armed services May 27, 1968. He was a member of Zebulon Baptist Church. Survivors: his parents; 2 brothers, Teddy and Tommy Ayers of the home; 1 sister, Mrs. Carolyn Anderson of Carnesville; paternal grandparents, Mitch & Martha Pritchett Ayers of Canon, GA; maternal grandfather, Joe Wells of Carnesville, GA. Funeral services will be at 4 pm Monday, at Zebulon Baptist Church with Rev. Oscar Anderson and Rev. Wade Lord officiating. Burial will be in Stephens Memorial Gardens with full military honors.
