L. Coe. On November 15 I was sadly informed by the Red Cross of Winchester, England, of the death of Robert L. Coe, of Eastanollee. He died of pneumonia on October 6 at the United States Hurstly Hospital, near the old city of Winchester, England. He was buried on October 10 with full military honors, on Morn Hill, about four miles from that old city, and his grave overlooks a beautiful stretch of English country. Robert will be greatly and sadly missed here by his many friends, which consisted of all that knew him, for one could only know him but to love him. It was Robert's intention to return to this county and make it his future home. He had purchased property here and had left his business in a good, thriving condition. Having known Robert from the time he was a little child, I can say that he was a boy with the best of habits. His disposition was always bright and pleasing. Troubles or disappointments never appeared to ruffle his temper. He took all things easy. His words were few, but well spent, and he never spoke disrespectfully of anyone. It was ever his keenest pleasure to do a kind deed for a friend. He was always ready to sacrifice his own good for that of others, and enjoyed association only with the best. Robert was a member of the Bethesda Methodist church, in Oglethorpe county, at the time of his death, and when living near this church he was a zealous worker in both the church and Sabbath school. He rarely missed a Sunday school service. Around this old church he has a multitude of friends. In his death his church and community has lost a zealous worker, his county a noble citizen, and his country a strong support and noble soldier. While our disappointment is great in his not being able to return to us, and while we keenly feel our great loss, we can only bow to the will of Him who knows best, and be proud that he lived a life which will be a shining example for others, and that he died in defense of his country.
