Farmer, age 88, pioneer and well knows Stephens County citizen of the Curahee community, passed away Thursday morning in a local hospital. Mr. Farmer had been in declining health for several years and seriously ill for three weeks prior to his death. The son of the late William Crawford and Elizabeth Reynolds Farmer, he was born Feb. 14, 1877 in this county which was Habersham at the time, and had lived all of his life in the Currahee community. Mr. Farmer was a retired farmer and was of the Christian Church faith. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Beulah Cash Farmer, two daughters, Mrs. R.G. Bowman of Smyrna and Mrs. C.L. Smith of Charlotte, NC, 4 sons, C.B. Farmer, Alexandria, Va., Howard Farmer, Toccoa, Hubert Farmer, Aiken, SC and Ernest Farmer of Juniper Springs, FL., one sister, Mrs. Floyd Stephens of Cornelia; two brothers, J.M. Farmer and George Farmer, both of Toccoa; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Hill Crest chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home with the Rev. Furman Anderson, Rev. Billy Carpenter, and Rev. Oscar Anderson officiating. Pallbearers were John R. Farmer, LeRoy Cash, Sanford Farmer, Luther Farmer, Seaborn Farmer, Maurice Cash , J.R. Anderson and Vernon Cash. Interment was in Tates Creek cemetery with Acree-Davis Funeral Home in charge. Additional Comments: His full name was Benjamin Franklin Farmer, named for his grandfather Benjamin Franklin Reynolds. Ben, as he was called, along with his brother Jake assisted their Uncle John A. Reynolds in surveying the boundry lines of Stephens County when it was formed from Franklin and Habersham Counties in 1905. Ben was the first person to plant "Kentucky 31 Fescue" in Georgia. He received the seeds from the seed developer in Kentucky. He planted these seed then cultivated and gathered seed for additional planting and sharing with his neighbors.
