H. Farmer dies at Age of 71 Mr. Joseph H. Farmer, known to everyone as Uncle Joe, passed away peacefully Friday at his home at Eastanollee. Mr. Farmer was one of Stephens County's landmarks, having been born 71 years ago near Currahee Mountain in the Farmer Section. Possessing a rare talent of making friends, he enjoyed the association of many friends as most men ever do. "Uncle Joe" was always quiet and unassuming in his nature, always with a smile he would greet his friends from far and near. To ever visit his home was a pleasure. When the Federal Government decided to buy up land in the Currahee District, "Uncle Joe' sold his old home place and bought the John Sheriff farm near Eastanollee. He had lived there 3 years at the time of his passing. Forty-five years ago he was united in marriage to Miss Emma Brown and to this union four daughters and three sons, preceding him to his maker several years ago. "Uncle Joe" had been enjoying the best of health until November of last year. His condition became critical and he was carried to the Stephens County Hospital for treatment. After everything possible was done to restore his health, he asked that he be carried back home. Hundreds of friends from all sections went to his home to visit him and a pall of sorrow swept the county when the news of his passing went out.
