LILLIE CARTER HOLCOMB, 81, pioneer Toccoa matron and widow of Ode Holcomb, died at the residence on Morgan Place Thursday morning after an extended illness. She was the daughter of the late John and Florida Rainey Carter, and was born Oct. 11, 1882, in the Carnes Creek section of this county, at the time it was still Habersham County. She had lived in Toccoa all of her life. Mrs. Holcomb was a member of the Toccoa Church of God. Her husband died in 1935. Survivors: 3 daughters, Mrs. Bart Lowery, Mrs. Gladys Garland, Mrs. Ruby Garland, all of Toccoa; 2 sons, W. W. Holcomb of Charleston, SC and Rufus Holcomb of Chattahoochee, FL; one brother, W. W. Carter of Miami, FL; half- sister, Mrs. Archie Miller of Orlando, FL; half-brother, Gibbs Carter of Toccoa; 17 grandchildren, and a number of great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. from Toccoa Church of God, the Rev. G. M. Chitwood officiating. Burial in the Toccoa cemetery. Pallbearers, to meet at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Saturday, are Dewey McCurley, George White, Clarence Deal, Herman Moss, Onie McMurry and Frank Graham. Acree-Davis Funeral Home, Toccoa, GA.
