"Pete" Davenport Sr., 80 of 121 Curtis St., died Sunday, Dec. 27. Mr. Davenport, a native of Greer, S.C., was a son of the late Malcom Clifton and Clara Merchant Davenport, and the widower of Dorothye Barnes Davenport. A graduate of Oglethorpe University, he was a former member of Mahi Shrine Temple and the Masons of Miami, Fla. He was a former member of Toccoa BPOE, active in Toccoa Masonic Lodge 309 F&AM and a member of Scottish and York Rite. He was a U. S. Army Veteran of World War II and was a retired Realtor. He was a member of Toccoa First United Methodist Church, where he served as secretary-treasurer of the Curtis Men's Bible Class. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Toccoa First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Claude Smithmier will officiate. Survivors include a daughter, Dorothye Abramson, Miami, Fla.; two sons, Luther M. Davenport, Jr., Miami, and David W. Davenport, Norfolk, Va; a sister Martha Josephy, Sudbury, Conn.; and four grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 407 E. Tugalo St., Toccoa, or to a favorite charity. Whitlock Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
