Mr. Owen, who resided at 557 North Highland Avenue, was wounded in his upper right thigh just as he was crawling from a ditch into which he had fallen at the start of the hunt. A gun carried by Billy Street, of 297 Oxford Place, accidentally discharged, members of the party said. The accident brought the weekend hunting trip to a sudden end as the party which had left Atlanta only a few hours earlier rushed the injured man to Emory University Hospital. An improvised tourniquet which partially stanched the flow of blood from the wound broke twice en route to Atlanta, his family said. At the hospital, cause of death was given as "loss of blood and shock." Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock from Springhill. The Rev. H.E. Russell will officiate, and interment will be in West View Cemetery. A native of Toccoa, Mr. Owen had made Atlanta his home for nine years. He managed a restaurant for the Bred B. Profit Company at the Fulton Bag and Cotton Mills. He had previously been manager of several establishments in mid-Atlanta. He is survived by his wife; young son, Robert Winston Owen; mother, Mrs. D. W. Owen, and brother Bernard Owen, both of Toccoa, and three sisters, Misses Lucille, Sarah, and Agnes Owen, all of Atlanta.
