C. Simpson, Sr., Dead. Mr. W. C. Simpson, Sr., aged 67 years, who had been a resident of Toccoa since 1875, died on Saturday morning last, following a stroke of paralysis sustained on the previous Tuesday, while on a business errand at a store on Doyle street. Mr. Simpson was an exemplary citizen, and his sudden death came as a shock to the community. For the past ten years or more, he had been manager of the Albemarle Hotel. Previous to that time he was engaged in business pursuits of various kinds, and was always congenial and dependable, enjoying the confidence of his acquaintances to the fullest extent. Mr. Simpson is survived by his widow, who was Miss Mamie Jarrett, a member of one of the oldest families of Tugalo valley, and the following children: Rev. John A. Simpson, of Commerce, Robert and W. C., Jr., of Atlanta, Mrs. Jim Thomason, Anderson, S.C., and Frank and Charlie, of Toccoa. Two other sons, Devereaux and Archie, gave up their lives a little over a year ago, while in the service of their country. The funeral, which was held from the Presbyterian church at 3 p.m., Sunday, was conducted by Rev. C. M. Chumbley, and was very largely attended. The profusion of beautiful flowers sent by loving friends attested the high esteem in which the deceased was held. The pall-bearers were the five sons and son-in- law. The members of the Boards of Elders and Deacons of the Presbyterian church, of which Mr. Simpson had been a member for about 40 years, were honorary pall-bearers. Interment was at the city cemetery. The family have the sincerest sympathy of all. Additional Comments: A related article also in The Toccoa Record, Toccoa, Georgia, January 8, 1920: RESOLUTIONS OF CHURCH SESSION. At a meeting of the Session of the Presbyterian church held Sunday morning, the following resolutions were adopted by that body: In the passing of our Brother and Fellow Elder, Mr. William Calvin Simpson, this church has lost another of its oldest members, the Session a sound counselor, and the community an exemplary citizen. The offspring of pious parents, this boy was the subject of prayer and of careful training; and in early life gave himself to Christ and was ordained to the Communion of the Presbyterian church. After coming to Toccoa he united with this church. Some 20 years ago he was elected a Ruling Elder, in which office he served till his death. A thoughtful and affectionate husband, a kind and indulgent father, a citizen of high ideals and firm convictions; he will be greatly missed in every circle in which he moved. During the moments of failing health he was uncomplaining and when his two boys, in quick succession were taken, he bore the stroke with Christian patience and fortitude, assured that all things work together for good to those who love God. This tribute of our affection and esteem we hereby adopt and order spread upon the records of our body, and published in The Toccoa Record.
