Born Aug. 25, 1933, in Stephens County, he was a son of the late Oscar Stamey and Isabell Garner Stamey. He was the retired owner-operator of Stamey Woodcraft. He was a former member of the Hartwell Golf Club, member of Nancy Hart Masonic Lodge #690, a founding member of the Hartwell Optimist Club where he was a past secretary-treasurer, president, state lt. governor and Optimist of the Year for the State of Georgia in 1996-97. He was a member of Hartwell First United Methodist Church and the Sojouners. Survivors include his wife, Rosa Campbell Stamey of the home; two sons, Richard Stamey and his wife, Barbara, and Kenneth Stamey and his wife, Patricia, all of Anderson, S.C.; three brothers, Fred Stamey of Charlotte, N.C., Mervin Stamey of Savannah and Calvin Stamey of Anderson, S.C.; two sisters, Clara Teasley of Hartwell and Marie Robertson of Fayetteville; three grandchildren, Chris Stamey, Kelli Hamilton and Paul Mennix; great-grandchildren; and a special brother-in-law, Allen Campbell of Hartwell. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Mitchell Stamey; and two brothers, John Stamey and Leonard Stamey. Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 13, in the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Dr. R. Allen Stewart and the Rev. Bruce Eaves officiating. Interment followed in Mt. Olivet Baptist Church Cemetery. Strickland Funeral Home, Hartwell Chapel, was in charge of arrangements. Additional Comments: Burial: May 13, 2008, Mt. He worked with a couple of local companies, before opening his own furniture manufacturing shop. This has been a very good adventure for him and Rosa.
