Coleman Watkins, 79, of 3714 Dawson Ave., Greensboro, N.C., was 2 p.m. Thursday Aug. 19 He died Tuesday at residence. He was born in Lavonia, Nov. 27, 1913. He was the son of the late James H. and Willie Richardson Watkins. He was a retired Baptist Minister. He served as Chaplain of the Georgia Industry-institute for Boys and was affiliated with the Baptist Children's Home of Thomasville, N.C. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served in WWII. Survivors include his wife, Lillie May Bagshaw Watkins of the home; two daughters, Wanda Thompson of Mt. Gilead, N.C., Janice White of Greensboro,; three sisters, Mrs. Callie Purgerson of Lilburn; Mrs. Elizabeth Blackburn and Mrs. Viola Gastley both of Toccoa; one brother, H.L. Watkins of Mc Dough. Others survivors include two grand children, Matt white and Janette White. One grandson, David White, preceded him in death. Funeral was at Stevens Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. H. Wayne Dunn; the Rev. Michael Staton, the Rev. W.L. Pitts and the Rev. Max Pendleton officiating. Burial was at Lakeview Memorial Park, Greensboro Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
