Whiten Child Dies After Being Struck By Truck Thursday

Leroy Whiten, eight-year-old son of Mr. And Mrs. Carl Whiten, died last 
Thursday night at the Stephens County Hospital of injuries sustained when he 
was struck by a truck on Broad Street earlier in the afternoon.

Young Whiten, a student in the first grade of the Toccoa Public Schools, was 
on his way home from school when struck as he crossed the street suddenly. The 
accident was described as unavoidable.

Survivors include his parents, a brother, Thomas and two sisters Annie Mae and 
Ebbie Ree, all of Toccoa.

Funeral Services were held Saturday morning from Zebulon Church, with Rev. 
Holman Kelley officiating. Playmates acted as pallbearers. Music was furnished 
by the Sisk quartet. Many beautiful floral tributes showed the love of young 
Whiten’s friends.

Interment was in the church cemetery, under the direction of McNeely Funeral 
Home
