Obituary:				H. D. "Dave" Whiten
Toccoa Record, July 9, 1953

Mr. H. D. Whiten, widely known citizen, passed away June 29, at home of his 
son, Mr. Carl Whiten, 177 Elberton Street. Mr. Whiten was 74 years old and his 
death came after an illness of several weeks duration.
He was born May 29, 1879, in this county (Franklin County), and had lived in 
this community practically all of his life. His wife, Mrs. Lula Smith Whiten, 
passed away several years ago.
Survivors include three children, Mr. Carl Whiten and Mr. Elmer Whiten, both 
of Toccoa, and Mrs. Void Thomas of Atlanta; four brothers, Mr. Young Whiten of 
Carnesville, Mr. Sam Whiten of Lavonia, Mr. Robert Whiten of Martin, and Mr. 
Luther Whiten of Westminster, South Carolina; three sisters, Mrs. Asbury 
(Elizabeth Jane) Bell of Toccoa, Mrs. Amos Dooley of Toccoa, and Mrs. Dock 
(Lora) Thomas of Martin.
Funeral services were held in the chapel of Acree-Davis Funeral Home, Funeral 
Directors with Dr. H. O. Olney and Rev. W. T. Watkins officiating. Interment 
was in Liberty Hill Church cemetery.
