Although Mr. Whiten had been ill health for the past two years, his death was unexpected and came as the result of a heart attack. The son of the late David and Harriett Henderson Whiten, he was born April 6, 1884 in Stephens County (Franklin County) and had lived here his entire life. Mr. Whiten farmed for a number of years and prior to his retirement some years ago, he was affiliated with the Currahee Furniture Company in Toccoa. Mr. Whiten was twice married, first to Mrs. Myrtie Russum Whiten who passed away in 1928. His second wife, Mrs. Ida Collins Whiten survives him. He was a member of the Liberty Hill Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, 4 daughters, Mrs. Helen Garner of Toccoa, Mrs. Michael Kotch of Lehington, Penn., Mrs. Glenn Scarborough of Athens, and Mrs. Doyle Madden of Anderson S. C.; 4 sons, Gladstone Whiten of Toccoa, Bobby Gene Whiten of Cornelia and Lewis Whiten of the residence. Two sister, Mrs. O. C. Patat of Toccoa and Mrs. C. L. Williams of Athens. He is survived by 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 4 o'clock from the Liberty Hill Baptist Church with Rev. F. M. Linder, Rev. D. J. Satterfield and Rev. N. J. Kimbrell officiating. Pallbearers were Frank Herron, Fred Ayers, Ralph Stowe, Kilburn Rumsey, Willie Stowe, and Johnson McCurley. Interment was in Liberty Hill cemetery with Acree- Davis Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
