Mr. Whiten was born in Franklin County, March 17, 1903, a son of the late W. P. Whiten and Mrs. Charity Bellamy Whiten and had lived in Franklin County all of his life. He was a member of Hunter's Creek Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Rilla Mae Candy Whiten of the home; three sons, George William Whiten of Abbeville South Carolina; Harold Woodrow Whiten and John Terrell Whiten, both of Greenville, South Carolina; three daughters Mrs. Pete Lollis of Belton, South Carolina; Mrs. Clearence Morris of Toccoa; Mrs. Michael Brown of Toccoa; two brothers, Preston A. Whiten of Toccoa, Georgia; Jewell Whiten of Carnesville, Georgia; two sisters, Mrs. Ollie Cheek, of Toccoa, Georgia; and Mrs. Eureka Brunette of Doraville, Georgia. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at three o'clock Friday afternoon from the Hunter's Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Harvey Williams, the Rev. James Whitlock, and the Rev. Virgil Cleveland officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Grandsons and nephews served as pallbearers, Dale Whiten, Michael Whiten, Bobby LeCroy, Teddy LeCroy, Hoyt Whiten, and Edwin Whiten.
