Mr. Whiten was born April 27, 1892, a son of the late William P. Preston and Mrs. Charity Ann Bellamy Whiten and had lived in Franklin County most of his life, moving to Toccoa some four years ago. He was a member of Hunters Creek Baptist Church, a Deacon and had served as Sunday School Superintendent for several years. Survivors include his wife Mrs. Lillian Busha Whiten of the home; four sons, Troy Whiten, Edwin Whiten, Dwight Whiten all of Toccoa, and Hoyt Whiten of Martin. Two daughters; Mrs. Allene McClain and Mrs. Emily Coker both of Toccoa; one brother Jewel B. Whiten of Carnesville; one sister Mrs. Eureka Brunette of Doraville, Georgia; one son-in-law Jewell Slocum of Toccoa. Also surviving are sixteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at eleven o'clock Saturday from the Chapel of the Mathews Mortuary with the Rev. Roy Smith officiating. Burial followed in the Zebulon Baptist Church Cemetery. Nephews served as pallbearers. the Matthew Mortuary was in charge of arrangement.
