Mr. Whiten suffered a heart attack at his home and died enroute to the Stephens County Hospital where he was being rushed by ambulance. The son of the late Tom whiten and the late Mrs. Elizabeth Bellamy Whiten, he was born October 4, 1881, in the same community in which he died. although he had been in ill health for several years, he was always active in the civic and religious life of his community. Mr. Whiten was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church, and was a member of the Red Hill Masonic Lodge. Survivors include his wife, the former Miss Rebecca Addison; 4 daughters, Mrs. Roy Smith of Mize, Mrs. O. C. McCollum of Birmingham, Ala, Mrs. T.V. McEwen of Atlanta, and Mrs. J. T. Casey of Mobile, Ala; 5 sons, Ralph Whiten and Paul Whiten, both of Toccoa, Lloyd Whiten of Smyrna, Ga., Hoyt Whiten of Atlanta, and Tom Whiten of Chamblee; one sister, Mrs. Dewey Whitworth, Toccoa; 3 brothers, Jim Whiten, Jack Whiten and Claro Whiten all of Carnesville; and by 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 4 o'clock with the Rev. A. T. Cline, Rev. Kenneth Faulkenburg, Rev. Oscar Anderson, and Rev. Douglas Harmon officiating. Pallbearers were Deweece Addison, Clyde Addison, David Addison, Enos Russ Keller, Morris Lee Whiten, J.T. Keller, Dennis Whitworth, and Braz Addison. Members of the Red Hill Masonic Lodge served as honorary escort and interment was in the family plot of New Hope Cemetery with Acree Davis Funeral Home of Toccoa in charge of arrangements.
