Mr. Whiten was born in Franklin County, July 7, 1900, a son of the late Jim Whiten and Mrs. Frances Williams Whiten and had lived in the same community all of his life. He was a member of and a deacon of New Hope Baptist Church. Survivors include one sister Mrs. Pearl Sewell of the home; four brothers Clarence of Jackson, Georgia; Ondee of Gainesville, Georgia; Mart of Toccoa, Georgia; and Morris of Cornelia, Georgia. Also surviving are a number of nieces, nephews, several aunts and uncles. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at three o'clock from the chapel of the Dan Mathews Mortuary with Rev. Marion Thomas and the Rev. Ralph Bagwell officiating. Burial followed in the New hope Cemetery. Pallbearers; Jimmy Crawford, Carlton Ayers, Frankie Payne, Dan Bailey, and Frank Payne. The honorary escort was composed of deacons of the New Hope Baptist Church.
