Mr. D. B. Elliott moved to Chattahoochee County in 1883 and lived as agent on the Woolfolk plantation then owned by S. Hatcher, for eighteen years, where he died in 1901. Miss Alice says he made eighteen bales of cotton to the plow while manager there. She says (this was told to her by others) Mr. John Woolfolk the original settler was noted for his generosity towards his poorer neighbors as well as for his race track and other paraphenalia for sporting events. Some of the old three cornered card tables (two made a square) were still in the home when they moved there in 1883. For he would give wagon loads of corn to those who needed it and when they came would invite them to eat at his table, ever careful of their feelings. In fact, he would reprove a member of his family who failed to treat his guests of humbler circumstances with the same courtesy as others. Miss Alice who has resided in Columbus for a number of years, recalls many interesting stories connected with plantation life along the Chattahoochee River.
