As some of you know the people searching the Grimes line that went from Stewart Co.,Ga. to Alabama has had a time trying to put the line together because of the book The History of Stewart Co., Ga. Vol. 2. There are errors that i am hoping we can get corrected. Like John Grimes ,Sr, John Grimes ,Jr. Etc. some of the errors has been corrected for the researchers because of the papers found in the Atlanta, Ga. Archives. The book has as the father of John Jr as John Sr that died 1837,(or that is how i read it).The way it turns out to be is that John Jr is the son of William Grimes that died 1837, and the mother was Mary in some of the papers and in others it has Nancy, so i will call her Mary Nancy. To tell the difference between the John's , i will put John(1) for John Sr, and John(2) for John Jr.. *All Grimes except when surname added. GRANTORS GRANTEES Amt. Pd. Book Page DATE Lot # Dist. On the same date and book # page 565 THOMAS and MARSHALL sells lots 159,130,127, for 3600.00 dollars and maybe leaves for Alabama, you will see latter that ISAAC and STEPHEN sells their land and leaves also, so it seems like after JOHN (1) dies and JOHN (2) is the admin. That the brothers of JOHN (1) does not like what he is doing so they sell out and leave, just a thought, LEWIS the older brother of JOHN (1) sells his land to JOHN (2) in 1842, but he stays on the land and lives there until he dies in 1857 (which is Webster Co.,Ga. now). Question is what relationship was there besides nephew/uncle was there between LEWIS and JOHN (2) could their have been a inlaw line? Found in Book B pages 347& 348 , A Nathan Grimes of Marion Co.,Ga sold to John Bailey, Lot 53,23rd Dist. Oct. 25,1832. In 1829 and 1830 There was a clerk of court THOMAS W. GRIMES, in Stewart Co.,Ga.,i have always thought it might be Thomas the son of James & Sarah Winders Grimes, but now i am wondering if it may have been Thomas Wingfield Grimes of Greene Co., Ga, I know that it has Thomas W. died in Greene Co, but maybe he left Stewart Co., and went back to Greene Co. ?? There was 4 difference GRIMES families in Stewart Co., How do they fit in with each other ? How are they related ? #1 Thomas Wingfield Grimes, on the 1830 census for a Thomas Grimes it has 1 son, i thought this our Thomas, and even have ask where was the other 2 children. No one answered back, so i thought maybe they were with the Kornegay's( inlaws of Thomas), but maybe that was not our Thomas. # 2 Frank Grimes bca 1820 m a Prather and they had son Richard Lafayette Grimes, Frank was the son of Josiah Grimes. # 3 Our Lines of Stephen, Lewis, John, Isaac, William, Bryan,(even though there is no land sales for Bryan). # 4 John P. Grimes line that was later in Al. son of John Miner Grimes. The papers above can be found in LUMPKIN, STEWART CO. GA.COURTHOUSE. Thank you and Good Luck to All Christine Grimes Thacker
