FAMILY CEMETERY, near the old Grimes - Feagan ( i think it was spell Feagin at one time. This is how some of the papers were signed) home. The home has now been moved to the Old Westville,in Lumpkin ,Ga. From what Mr Perry Usher told Hugh Grimes, is that the home was moved in 1969, I met Mr Usher in 1998 while in Stewart Co., with Hugh and Betty Grimes of Houma, La. Mr Usher had told Hugh the story about the moving of the home before, but he told it again being i was there, of how when the home was being moved the house was to wide to take across the Patatua Bridge, so what they did was get some planks that the truck could drive on to raise the height of the truck so that the house was high enough to pass over the bridges sides, Not sure of the year that Hugh and Betty Grimes met Perry Usher, but Mr Usher took them to the site that the house use to stand on before being moved, and at that time Hugh said that there was stone mound like areas where someone had been buried, than several years later they are not there, the Mead paper Co., had done some logging and the stones were scattered , they took me there in 1998, and i seen the stones in different areas of the lot, in 1999 Hugh and Betty placed four Tombstones on the lot, and a marker near the dirt road, it is not known for sure who was buried here , the book mention John Sr father of John Jr, well the papers show that John Jrs father was William who died 1837, and the John Sr mention also died 1837, But it is known that Grimes is buried there so this is one way for it to be known to future generations that this area was once a burial site for some of the Grimes. The Four Tombtones that were put up were for John Grimes d. 1837, William Grimes d. 1837, Lewis Grimes d. 1857, James L. Grimes d. May 2, 1864,son of Lewis Grimes. There is still a need to search for more info on the Grimes in Stewart Co.,Ga. If anyone sees any errors in my work please let me know by E-Mail the address is CGT714@Aol.com.
