Lumpkin, Ga., August 1- Mr. George W. Ard, the veteran tax collector of Stewart county, died yesterday morning at 9 o'clock from congestive fever. He has been tax collector for Stewart county for about thirty consecutive years, and made an honest, faithful officer. He was a man of strong convictions, and determination, and as that stamp of men will always do, made some enemies. He was a badly wounded confederate soldier and the people of his county honored him for many years. He was a consistent member of the Baptist church and Masonic fraternity. He was buried on Tuesday from the Baptist church with Masonic honors. He leaves a devoted wife and a large family of children.
