John Boston Gilbert, the newspaper sage of Stewart County, died at his home in 
Omaha Sunday morning at the ripe old age of seventy-five years.  Mr. Gilbert 
was for many years a writer.  His column in the Lumpkin Independent under 
heading “Stewart County Hopper” was read far and wide and made for him quite a 
reputation.  The world is better because of John Boston Gilbert having lived.  
He was a Christian gentleman and a host of friends will hear of his death with 
sorrow. – Americus Times Recorder
