Hill vjbhill@alltel.net July 2, 2004, 10:00 pm The Stewart-Webster Journal, Mar 10, 1955, Thursday Mrs. Sallie Stephens, age 94, Dies At Her Home Thursday March 3. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Friday at the Red Hill Congregational Christian Church for Mrs. Sallie Stephens, beloved citizen of the Brooklyn Community, who would have been 94 years of age the 25th day of March. She died at 11:35 Thursday morning at her home following a long illness. The Rev. S. M. Penn, pastor of the church, was assisted by the Rev. C. J. Veatch, pastor of the Richland Baptist Church, in conducting the rites. A quartette composed of Mrs. E. W. Richardson, Mrs. Ruth Adams, Walter Bruce and Clyde Hutto sang "Shall We Gather At The River" and "In The Sweet Bye and Bye" with Mts. T. L. Woods as pianist. Interment was in the churchyard cemetery with Campbell Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were the following grandsons: Robert Stephens, Paul Stephens, Willie Curtis, Hoke Warren, Maurice Warren and James Warren. Mrs. Stephens is survived by one son, Joe Stephens of Brooklyn, one daughter, Mrs. Lula Williams of Fitzgerald, twenty-nine grandchildren, ninety- one great grandchildren and twenty-three great great grandchildren. Mrs. Stephens was the former Sallie Ellis, daughter of the late Joshua and Mary Jane Molder Ellis of Muscogee County. Born in Muscogee County March 25, 1861, she lived at her present home for 53 years. She married the late Curtis Stephens in 1876. Her son, Joe Stephens and his wife and son Joey lived at the home place with Mrs. Stephens. Mrs. Stephens was a member of the Red Hill Christian Church and was one of the community's most highly esteemed women. She was possessed of many beautiful attributes and will long be remember by her scores of relatives and friends.
