Hill vjbhill@alltel.net July 4, 2004, 6:49 pm The Stewart-Webster Journal, Thursday, January 25, 1945 Funeral for Mr. Jesse J. Stephens Held At Red Hill Saturday Mr Jesse J. Stephens, of near Richland passed away at his home Thursday morning Jan 18th at 3:30 0'clock, following a long illness caused by Cancer of the stomach. He was born on the Old Stephens Farm February 22, 1893 and would have reached the age of 53 on his next birthday. He has been a resident of Stewart County all of his life, his occupation being chiefly farming and lumbering. Mr. Stephens is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nannie Lee Ruffin Stephens, four sons, Y2/C Walter Stephens of the U. S. Navy stationed at the U.S.N.T.C, Sampson, N.Y, Private Jesse Paul Stephens serving overseas in Belgium, David and Robert Stephens, two daughters Dorothy and Frances, one daughter-in-law Mrs. Paul Stephens and one son-in-law William Harry, and 1 grandchild Sybil Harry. He is also survived by his Mother Mrs. C. A. Stephens, one brother, Joe, one sister, Mrs. J. E. Barrentine of Fitzgerald, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev's Ellerbee and Farr at the Prividence Chapel Red Hill at 3 0'clock p.m. Saturday January 20th. Interment followed in the Red Hill Cemetery. At present Mrs. Stephens will make her home with the family on the old home place.
