Stephens Dies After Long Illness At his home in Brooklyn Friday afternoon August 16th occcurred the much regretted death of Mr. C. A. Stephens pioneer citizen of Stewart County. The health of Mr. Stephens had been impaired for sometime, and after a lingering illness he passed on the above date. Mr. Stephens was born in this County in 1856, being 61 years of age at the time of his death. He had never connected himself with any Church, but aside from this formality his life was one of strict integrity and sound morals, and his long and useful life proves that he must have lived near the teachings of Christ. He was well known throughout a wide territory although he has always lived in his present home section. He was a most successful farmer for many years. His wife who was Miss Sallie Ellis before marriage, survives him with five children who are Mrs. James Warren, Mrs. James Barrentine, Messrs Joe, Jesse and Gordon Stephens of Brooklyn, three brothers Messrs John & Thomas Stephens of South Ga, and Mrs. Smith of Richland. Mr. Stephens was a brother-in-law of Mrs. J. A. Wood here. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. A. H. Robinson assisted by Rev. Crumbly. Interment at Red Hill Cemetery.
