Hill vjbhill@alltel.net January 5, 2006, 7:22 pm Stewart-Webster Journal, June 6, 1963, Thursday Funeral Services Held Monday for John Gordon Smith Funeral services for John Gordon Smith, 73, were held Monday June 3, at Harmony Primitive Baptist Church at 3:00 with the Rev. J. M. Carmichael, pastor of the First Baptist Church officiating. Mr. Smith, a veteran of World War I, and a son of the late Green Smith and Alice Stephens Smith was born and reared in Stewart County and married the former Miss Annie Laurie Cobb, January 15, 1922. He died Saturday, June 1 at the Veterans Hospital in Montgomery, Al, after entering the Hospital Friday following a heart attack. Survivors include his wife, five sons, Merrill, George and Wayne, Richland; Nolan, U. S. Navy and Gene, Montgomery, Al; two daughters, Mrs. Dan Williams, Lumpkin; Mrs. Jerry Bonner, Tuscaloosa, Al; a sister, Mrs. W. T. Brodnax, Thomaston and thirteen grandchildren. Burial was in Harmony Cemetery and pallbearers were nephews of Mr. Smith; W. D. Harry, John Harry, Harold Brodnax, Elvin Johnson, Raymond Smith, and James Smith.
